Staff

Harry Duchesne – Executive Director

Harry joined Audio Journal as Executive Director in June 2022. Harry has a long history in the Worcester area including directing community programs on Service Learning and Social Justice, obtaining a ‘Success Award’ from the Mercy Center, ‘Teacher of the Year’ award at Holy Name HS, and serving as a Board Member for Rebuilding Together Worcester.

Harry’s background includes many years of teaching and leadership experience: MCPHS University, Anna Maria College, St. Peter-Marian HS, Holy Name High School, Assistant Director of Urban Missionaries (‘The Little Store’ in Worcester), Director of Housing and Stabilization at the New England Farm Worker’s Council in Holyoke, MA, and Program Director for ‘Young Neighbors in Action’ in Worcester for 20 years.

As a person who lives with a vision impairment himself, he is uniquely tuned in to the needs of our listeners. His vision impairment has helped him become more empathetic to the needs of others. Harry’s mission is to reach as many of the more than 5,000 legally blind residents in Central Massachusetts and many more print-disabled in our area to keep them in touch with local information, events, and entertainment.

Julie Standrowicz – Director of Programming

Initially a volunteer for Audio Journal, Julie joined the staff in January 2022. She works part-time from her home in Millbury and manages the daily audio editing and programming for Audio Journal as well as other office-related work that helps our organization run on a day-to-day basis.

Julie was born and raised in southeastern Massachusetts and moved to the Worcester area with her husband in 2005. Julie is an author, avid reader, and loves all things creative.

Previously, Julie worked for over 20 years in Information Technology at Boston Scientific in various roles both as an independent contributor and as a manager.

In 2019, Julie took a leap of faith to pursue her writing, creative endeavors, and to focus on service to others – which led her to volunteering here at Audio Journal. Her technical skills and passion for bringing quality content to our listening audience make her a great fit here at Audio Journal.

Laurie Flannery – Assistant Editor/Tech Trainer

Laurie joined Audio Journal’s staff as Assistant Editor and Tech Trainer in June 2023. As a part time staff member, she assists with audio editing, programming, training new volunteers, and assists with some of Audio Journal’s office coordination. As her focus is on the more technical side of things, she assists Program Manager Julie to ensure the station’s broadcast is the best it can be.

A Worcester native, Laurie has a Bachelor of Music degree with an Emphasis in Sound Recording Technology from UMASS Lowell. She worked for many years at the world-renowned Gateway Mastering as legendary mastering engineer Bob Luwig’s technical assistant. She has worked on music from across multiple genres for artists all over the world, including Eric Clapton, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, Philip Glass, Fleetwood Mac, Bela Fleck.

In addition to her background in audio, she has written a book about Walt Disney World and another on Universal Orlando Resort, both for Barnes and Noble’s Sterling Publishing.

When Laurie isn’t applying her skills at the Audio Journal, she is usually spending time with her busy family. Their favorite experiences include trips to the Outer Banks in N.C., making music, attending concerts, sports events, and amusement parks.

Jennifer Ryan – Volunteer and Office Coordinator

Jennifer joined Audio Journal in June 2023 as the Office & Volunteer Coordinator. She handles volunteer scheduling and manages general office tasks so that the office can run smoothly, and everyone can focus on the things that matter – like bringing the news to our listeners!

Jen was born and raised in Northern Worcester County and has been a happy resident of Massachusetts her entire life. She graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in English and Art History, though her career path took her into a more financial and corporate route than she expected. She worked throughout and after college at the BJ’s Wholesale Club corporate office managing Clubs’ bank accounts before transitioning to less financially focused work. She has enjoyed learning the ins and outs of many different administrative fields throughout her career including retail, automotive, and most recently, educational as the Office Administrator and Assistant Intake Coordinator at Open Door Education, a small tutoring company in Acton, MA. Jen truly enjoys the variety that administrative work allows, with each new day being a little different than the last.

Outside of her work at Audio Journal, Jen likes to knit, garden, go to WooSox games with her husband, and hang out at home with her cat.
